Docs/AI Configuration/Choosing an Industry Template

Choosing an Industry Template

Select and customize a pre-built industry template to configure your AI sales agent's tone, discovery questions, and qualification criteria.

Choosing an Industry Template

Industry templates give your AI agent a head start by pre-configuring conversation tone, discovery questions, qualification criteria, and objection-handling strategies based on proven patterns from your vertical. Instead of building everything from scratch, you pick a template and refine it.

Available Templates

Navigate to Admin Dashboard > Settings > AI Configuration > Industry Template to see the full list.

| Template | Best For | Pre-configured Tone | |---|---|---| | SaaS | B2B software companies selling subscriptions | Professional, solution-oriented, technical when needed | | E-commerce | Online retailers and DTC brands | Friendly, helpful, concise | | Real Estate | Brokerages, agents, property management | Warm, knowledgeable, local-expert | | Healthcare | Clinics, telehealth, medical devices | Empathetic, compliant, reassuring | | Financial Services | Insurance, lending, wealth management | Trustworthy, precise, regulatory-aware | | Professional Services | Consulting, legal, accounting firms | Authoritative, consultative, relationship-focused | | Education | Universities, online courses, edtech | Encouraging, informative, supportive | | Custom | Anything that doesn't fit above | Blank slate -- you configure everything |

What Each Template Configures

When you select a template, Synaptiq pre-fills four areas of your AI configuration:

Conversation Tone and Style

Each template sets a baseline personality. The SaaS template, for example, instructs the AI to mirror the language of a knowledgeable account executive -- it asks about integrations, team size, and current tools. The Healthcare template uses softer language and avoids pressure tactics entirely.

Discovery Questions

Templates include 8-12 discovery questions tailored to the vertical. The Real Estate template asks about property type, desired neighborhoods, and timeline to move. The Financial Services template asks about current coverage, risk tolerance, and financial goals. These questions feed directly into qualification scoring.

Qualification Criteria

Each template maps its discovery questions to qualification criteria with sensible default weights. SaaS uses a modified BANT framework emphasizing product fit and team size. E-commerce focuses on purchase intent signals, cart value indicators, and urgency.

Objection Responses

Templates ship with 5-10 pre-written responses to the most common objections in that industry. The SaaS template handles "we're already using [competitor]" and "we need to talk to our IT team." The Healthcare template addresses insurance coverage concerns and scheduling hesitancy.

How to Switch Templates

  1. Go to Admin Dashboard > Settings > AI Configuration.
  2. Click Industry Template in the left sidebar.
  3. Select your desired template from the grid.
  4. Review the preview panel on the right -- it shows sample conversations using the template's settings.
  5. Click Apply Template.
Warning

Switching templates overwrites your current discovery questions, qualification criteria, and objection responses. If you have made custom changes you want to keep, export your current configuration first using the Export Config button at the top of the settings page.

Customizing After Selection

Templates are a starting point, not a constraint. After applying a template, every setting it configured becomes fully editable.

Adjusting Tone

Go to AI Configuration > Personality to modify the tone instructions. You can edit the system prompt directly or use the tone sliders:

  • Formality -- Casual to Corporate
  • Assertiveness -- Gentle suggestions to direct recommendations
  • Technical depth -- Plain language to industry jargon

Adding or Removing Discovery Questions

Under AI Configuration > Discovery Questions, you can reorder, edit, or delete the template's pre-filled questions. Add your own by clicking + Add Question and specifying:

  • The question text
  • What qualification criterion it maps to
  • Whether it's required or situational
  • Follow-up branching logic (if the visitor answers X, then ask Y)

Modifying Qualification Criteria

Templates assign default weights to each criterion. Head to AI Configuration > Qualification Criteria to change the weights, add new criteria, or remove ones that don't apply to your business. See the Customizing Qualification Criteria guide for a deep dive.

Editing Objection Responses

Under AI Configuration > Objections, review the template's pre-loaded responses. Edit any response to match your company's actual positioning and value propositions. Generic responses convert poorly -- the more specific you make these to your product and customers, the better.

Choosing the Right Template

If your business spans multiple verticals, pick the template closest to your primary sales motion rather than trying to blend two. A SaaS company selling to healthcare organizations should usually start with the SaaS template and then adjust the tone and compliance settings, rather than starting with Healthcare and retrofitting a SaaS qualification flow.

If none of the templates fit, choose Custom. You'll start with a neutral, professional tone and empty question/criteria lists, giving you full control from the beginning.

Previewing Your Configuration

After applying and customizing a template, use the Preview Chat tool in the bottom-right corner of the settings page. This opens a simulated conversation where you can interact with your AI agent as a visitor would. Test at least 3-4 different conversation paths before going live:

  • A highly qualified lead who answers everything
  • A visitor who is just browsing and gives short answers
  • A visitor who raises objections
  • A returning visitor who already provided some information

This preview uses your live configuration but does not create real lead records.
